The Hunger Games

 Being Remembered
In this article I am talking about being remembered for who you are as a person. This a very good subject to talk about when it comes to applying it to your own life.I hope you like it!

If you look in the sky you'll see thousands and thousands of glimmering stars all scattered across he endless sky. Imagine if you were that star trying to be seen among your other colleagues, trying to be remembered. You want to have that one moment in your life to be a shooting star that people will remember forever. In the novel The Hunger Games many of the contenders worry about how their skill level is. How far they can throw a knife, or how spot on you can shoot a bow and arrow. If really think like Peeta than you will realize that the skill level of your game is not the only thing to worry about. What about your personality, the way you live and act, will that just automatically stop when you enter the arena. This is how Peeta is thinking he doesn't want to become some killer beast that he's not just because of these mind twisting games. Can't you see this is Peeta's shooting star moment he just want to be... REMEMBERED, for who he was before all of these games started. The Hunger Games is known for many things but one thing that you have to be careful with it that it can take you and shape you into someone that your not.

 Waiting
Author's Note: I wrote this article as if I could give the characters from the Hunger Games advice on how to live their life. You can also apply this advise to yourself. Please Enjoy!

The agony of waiting can eat you alive sometimes. The fear of waking up one day and knowing that it may never come true will linger in your head forever . The days that await might be filled with distress. We can only hope that maybe just maybe a day will be filled with pleasure, and that it will last for a couple of days until we start to crumble again in our own fear. This describes the life of all the characters in the novel the Hunger Games. What they're waiting for is the Reaping. This word is practicality planted into all of their minds. People eat, sleep, and breath the Reaping. Going there could mean that it may be your last time seeing your friends and family. You either make it or break it. Only one will come home from the games. So why let your life be filled with fear and emptiness when your days are numbered. Live life like there is no tomorrow and you will find happiness in it all.

 Haymitch
In this article I am talking about a character that I kind of dislike for a couple of reasons. I also try to understand why or why not some of the other people in the story dislike this character as well. Please Enjoy!

Could you ever imagine what the Hunger Games could do to a person. Having the painful and sickening thoughts be forever in your mind. Haymich is a living and breathing survivor of the Hunger Games. He has set an example for what a winner of these games can do with their life, but sadly not a very good one. He is a drunk man, and has nothing to do with his life but help with the other players from District 12  for the the new and upcoming Hunger Games. The way he helps is by changing who that person is and making them into someone that they're not just so they can get the media's attention. I get it, the characters need the media to help them get sponsors but does it have to be this way. Relationships are being tested, and tangled with just because of this mans orders. Katniss, the main character hates this man with all of her heart and despises what he does. I understand where she coming from. He's messing with her heart and her love life and for a girl that age, it's just not right to do.Then again, you have to realize that this man named Haymitch has been through a lot and was not the same as he was before the games.

 Love
Authors Note:I wrote this paragraph to resemble the bond of a family member, and what it really looks likes. I am working on my wording in this article. Please enjoy!
Do you have a person in your life that you always feel the need to make them proud? Sometimes you even wonder what they think of you as a person. Some of the people that feel like this can just ask the person if they are proud of them, but others sadly can't. Katniss is one of the others. Her father had passed away a couple of years ago but to her it feels like just yesterday. She had always heard from everyone around District 12 how kind, and loyal her father was. To Katniss he was the best man on the whole entire world. To live without your father is to try to live without light. Katniss just wants to show her dad that she is a strong and independent woman, and indeed she is. If I could tell Katniss something it would be this; I know that your father is not here physically on this earth, but he is in your heart and he would be so proud of you of you right now. It is very important that we always keep our loved ones in are heart and they will never leave us.

Persistence
Authors Notes:In this article I am talking about persistence. And how people in the Hunger Games keep going and don't give up.  Please enjoy!

When you watch Olympics sports don't you just feel inspired by the competitors? All the hard work and pressure that is on the those players is indescribable. Now imagine if you where one of the 24 contestants  in the annual Hunger Games. Would you not give up when you heard that only one will live out of those 24 people. What keeps them going, what is there inspiration? That's it... it is their family. That is the only thing that they have  left. Everything else has been striped way from then like a grown up and their imagination. To come back from the games and to see you family again  must be a miracle. So what keeps you going, what gives you hope to move on with your life?

Friendship
Authors Note:In this writing piece I am going to talk about friendship and the relationships that are forming in the Hunger Games. Please Enjoy!

True friends are like a back of a chair. They keep you up when your down and they will never leave you.In the novel the Hunger Games Katniss and Rue are becoming pretty good friends. They are sharing their items of value and even their thoughts about life. I don't get it though, this is a game of killing, slaughtering, and back stabbing. Why would anyone want to be making friends in this kind of situation? Talk about trust, those two have to have some major guts to be sitting next to each other when they could be winning the games. These two girls can be a great example of friends. They barely know each other but they do know one thing, two is better is than one.

  1. Wow Syd! You've really outdone yourself with this piece, in fact, I think it may be your best writing this year, with the Argentina Essay. It is such a high level of writing, with the comparison between characters and you're really digging deep into what the story means instead of just reviewing the plot. Your Idea Development & Content is also so impressive in this story. I would have never picked out that detail in the Hunger Games book, but now that you say it, I TOTALLY see that part of the story, and why the author had put that in the book. The only constructive critism I would have is to watch your placement of commas in some places, there is a few run-ons in the story that wouldn't be run-ons if you added commas. Also, I know you had wanted to get this story over with, but if you would spend a little more time on it, I'm not exactly sure what your main intent for the story would be. However, assuming that it's about Peeta's attitude going into the Hunger Games, I would write a little more about Peeta's opinion, but maybe you were planning on adding on to that as you continued to read the book. Again, I am not sure of your intents. Overall, AWESOME JOB! Such a high level of writing!

  3. Sydney,
Nice piece and synopsis of the story (so far). You are really understanding a deeper menaing than what many may uncover in this book. I love reading it with you and I cannot wait to see if Peeta is remembered!

  5. Sydney,

I am enjoying your articles and getting your perspective on the story. I think that Haymitch may have entered the games innocent just like Peeta and Katniss but left a different person. Like you discussed in your first article he may have had to be a different person in the games and therefore left alive but really dead! Dead to himself...or is he?

It seems like Katniss may be bringing out a different side of Haymitch that we have not seen before. Interesting how our experiences shape us? I cannot wait to see how all are impacted by the two young ones from district 12...

  6. Looking at these entries, a reader can already tell the ease and structure of your writing is improving. I can clearly see the structure of the introductory element, body support, and conclusion. You are ready to start constructing multiple paragraph responses. I am proud of how your frequency has improved so quickly, along with your edit and revision skills. Keep up the good work, and blood oranges rule.

  8. The hunger games- I thought it was great what you decided to emphasize in your writing piece. How you compared Peeta to a star among thousands of stars. That was awesome! Great metaphor...

  9. Friendship...short, sweet, but still very beautiful. I love how you explain the situation that they are in, but that they both know that two is better than one. I can tell that you put a lot of thought into it. In your next piece you should try to add more detail.
